Job summary

USI Insurance Services is seeking an intermediate underwriter in Atlanta to assess and price risks for commercial lines. You will work under limited supervision to evaluate applications, obtain missing information, and coordinate with brokers and carriers to finalize policies.

Travel up to 10% may be required as you support client relationships and policy issuance. Candidates should have 3+ years in underwriting, a High School diploma or equivalent, and a Property & Casualty license.

• Broad knowledge of the insurance industry and strong negotiation skills.

General Description:

Assess risks of an intermediate nature, develop, and negotiate premiums. Manage relationships with brokers and carriers. Provide appropriate insurance products to clients. Generate profit in accordance with company goals.

Responsibilities:

• Under limited supervision, analyze and determine the acceptability of risks. Includes evaluating the application, website, claims history, and file notes.
• Obtain supplementary information as needed to underwrite policy.
• Determine the desirability of accepting or rejecting risks within guidelines.
• Coordinate risk assessment with Underwriting team as needed.
• Underwrite and price exposures in accordance with filed and approved rate levels and guidelines. Bring policy to completion with recommending and binding coverage, invoicing, and policy issuance.
• Identify the need, order, and evaluate additional risk assessment information.
• Communicate with agents to obtain supplemental underwriting information as needed.
• Analyze and rate endorsement requests.
• Issue and track conditional/non-renewal notices and cancellations. Adhere to regulatory compliance.
• Maintain knowledge of policy terms and endorsements.
• Assist manager in establishing underwriting policy and procedures.
• May require some travel for educational development or client relationship building.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• 3+ years of underwriting experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• For direct client service/underwriting, Property & Casualty and/or appropriate business licensure is required.
• Broad knowledge of insurance industry.
• Ability to negotiate with strong mathematical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
• Proficiency in utilizing company systems.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong research skills to troubleshoot customer problems
• Ability to travel 10% of the time.
