  • Understand pricing components, rating methodology, and use predictive modeling tools; price risk based on financial and competitive analysis.
  • Utilize all appropriate underwriting tools (e.g., RST, BPMT, Merlin) and strategies to ensure guidelines are followed.
  • Demonstrate technical underwriting skills through thorough account reviews and detailed file documentation.
  • Analyze adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and declinations to drive results within the territory.
  • Follow CAT guidelines and underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and ensure proper pricing.
  • Stay current on state/territory issues, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Manage assigned portfolio to achieve premium, profitability, rate, retention, and growth goals.
  • Prioritize resources to effectively manage and optimize producer performance.
  • Identify cross-sell opportunities and foster growth within other lines of business and customer segments.
  • Communicate CNA’s product offerings and position clearly at the point of sale.

Driven by our commitment to our customers, CNA’s core behaviors—externally focused, accountable, collaborative, innovative, and continuously learning—distinguish us from competitors. Employees exemplify these behaviors in all responsibilities and interactions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of underwriting processes, coverages, and tools to evaluate information for decisions on renewals and new business.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of internal and external partners within responsibility scope.
  • Ability to identify customer needs, offer solutions, handle objections, and close deals.
  • Judgment, negotiation skills, and ability to make sound business decisions within authority levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, influence others, and manage multiple projects.
