Job Title: Individual Contributor - Senior Underwriter

This role is responsible for the overall management, business development, analysis, and monitoring of a highly complex book of business. The individual is recognized as a technical expert in an underwriting specialty and works within broad limits of authority on assignments requiring a high degree of technical complexity and coordination. The scope may be regional, industry segment, or company-wide.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Perform duties in accordance with departmental guidelines, including working on highly complex underwriting risks using diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability.
  2. Develop specialized endorsement language for highly complex risks.
  3. Determine appropriate pricing for complex risks based on financial and competitive analysis, ensuring compliance with requirements with minimal oversight.
  4. Make recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategies.
  5. Analyze the quality, quantity, and profitability of highly complex risks; prepare and present reports to management.
  6. Market products and services through agencies or brokerage communities; conduct field visits.
  7. Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships within the assigned territory to achieve profitable outcomes on high-risk business.
  8. Stay current on state/territory issues, regulations, industry activity, and trends; participate in industry trade groups as appropriate.
  9. Mentor and guide less experienced underwriters; assist in underwriting training development.
  10. Utilize advanced functionality in CNA systems for daily activities.
  11. Lead special underwriting projects and presentations.

  • Advanced technical underwriting expertise and knowledge of insurance principles and practices.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; ability to interact effectively at all levels.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of managing multiple projects.
  • Ability to handle ambiguous situations and develop creative solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; professional designations preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years underwriting experience.

The salary range for this role in specific locations is $72,000 to $141,000 annually, based on experience, skills, certifications, and location. CNA offers a comprehensive benefits package.
