Responsibilities

As a member of the operations team, the Underwriting Assistant plays a key role in supporting the underwriting, finance and claims teams by ensuring accurate, timely execution of core operational processes, with a primary focus on supporting the Product Liability underwriting team. This position contributes directly to operational efficiency and service excellence across BPP.

  • Support the Liability underwriting team with rating and generating quotes and binders using internal underwriting system
  • Prepare and issue policies based on underwriter or operations manager instructions.
  • Assist the underwriting teams by processing and issuing midterm endorsements.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to resolve problems and eliminate processing delays.
  • Support underwriting teams by requesting additional information from brokers necessary for the proper processing of applications, endorsements, and cancellations, including any underwriting-related reports from external sources. And, perform routine follow-ups and referrals for same.
  • Assist Claims team by setting up new claim files in ClaimCenter, sending out notices, and providing administrative support as needed
  • Support Finance during month-end close processes, including follow-ups with brokers on outstanding premiums
  • Demonstrate responsiveness, ownership, and professionalism when handling requests across phone, email, and virtual channels
  • Perform compliance checks to ensure adherence to internal and regulatory standards
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and support special projects as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • Prior experience as an underwriting assistant in general liability insurance and knowledge of state rating rules preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Working knowledge of underwriting processes and professional handling procedures; including familiarity with underwriting terminology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe and familiarity with underwriting systems
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are necessary; problem solving and creative thinking skills are required.
  • Customer service oriented, a team player, willing to learn, organized, detail-oriented and flexible.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
