Job Description - Underwriter/Sr. Underwriter, Excess Casualty Division (2500002B)

Description

The Underwriter or Senior Underwriter, General Casualty, is responsible for supporting a book of business, employing the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals, managing and growing their portfolio of business, adhering to proper underwriting discipline/guidelines, marketing, and assisting in servicing existing and potential wholesale clients.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Execute the business plan for the development, management, and expansion of a portfolio of accounts
  2. Prioritize and evaluate submissions to identify those accounts that offer the greatest profit opportunity in line with the business plan and corporate profit goals
  3. Perform underwriting analysis following Allied World (US) General Casualty guidelines
  4. Develop and recommend account pricing, structure, terms, and conditions, reviewing these with underwriting staff
  5. Exercise proper underwriting pricing and discipline, ensuring compliance with guidelines, systems, and procedures, and document referrals
  6. Maintain concise underwriting files consistent with company best practices
  7. Delegate and supervise tasks with Account Coordinators
  8. Focus on marketing to wholesale brokers within an assigned territory
  9. Attend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and social outings as applicable
  10. Participate in industry conferences and seminars as appropriate
  11. Liaise with brokers, internal auditors, Claims, Accounting, IT, and Legal departments as needed
  12. Report to underwriting manager regarding submissions and portfolio content
Qualifications

Compensation

The annual base pay range is broad, based on market analysis. Actual pay may vary based on factors such as role complexity, location, experience, skills, education, and other employment conditions. The base salary is part of Allied World’s comprehensive reward package, which may include incentives.

$80,000 - $130,000

Qualifications:
  • University degree
  • 3-5+ years experience in General Casualty underwriting
  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and quantitative skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours as needed
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings and broker visits within the assigned region
