This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our North America Surety Reinsurance portfolio. By meticulously selecting and monitoring the profitability of cedents, you ensure that every decision drives AXIS towards greater financial strength. Collaborating closely with the Head of the department, you'll underwrite, price, and facilitate the seamless booking of each treaty, making a tangible impact on our operations.

Your expertise will shine as you audit cedent underwriting files, uncovering insights and drafting comprehensive findings. You'll underwrite special acceptances and provide strategic recommendations, influencing the acceptance or declination of individual deals. Your contributions will be instrumental in steering our portfolio towards sustained success and profitability.

What will you do in this role?
  • Review reinsurance contract treaty wording for adherence to industry and AXIS standards, consult with legal staff, and negotiate with brokers and clients.
  • Perform annual underwriting file audits, review credit files, and analyze risk selection for consistency and detail.
  • Assess and report findings, identifying trends over time.
  • Collaborate with actuaries to determine treaty pricing relative to risk profiles.
  • Develop underwriting rationale to recommend treaty participation levels based on data and risk characteristics.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment during high activity seasons.
  • Verify treaty details, pricing, and deal terms post-renewal with underwriting assistants.
  • Perform additional duties as appropriate to the role.
About You :

What you need to have :
  • 5+ years of primary surety underwriting experience.
  • Advanced financial and credit analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of accounting, cash flow analysis, and construction management controls.
What we prefer you to have :
  • Prior knowledge of surety claims practices.
  • Experience in surety reinsurance, Trade Credit, or political risk underwriting.
Role Factors :
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
  • Presence in the office 3 days per week.

Base salary ranges vary by location, with additional incentive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and perks such as medical, wellness, retirement, tuition reimbursement, and paid vacation. This role in the U.S. is Exempt under FLSA.
