IAT Insurance Group is seeking an Inland Marine & Property Underwriter for Naperville or Rolling Meadows, IL. The role combines in-office collaboration with remote work on Thu-Fri, focused on expanding regional presence and managing an existing portfolio while building new business.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in inland marine or property underwriting, strong pricing and risk skills, and a track record with broker relationships. Requires US work authorization and a relevant degree.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 2+ years inland marine or property underwriting experience.
• Strong understanding of insurance marketplace, pricing, and competition.
• Proven ability to build and maintain broker relationships that drive new and renewal business.

Responsibilities

• Review underwriting files and accept new business or renewals within authority.
• Analyze documents to identify exposure and minimize risk using data and outside sources.
• Determine account premiums within plan and authority limits.
• Read and interpret contracts to assess exposures and guide others.
• Provide coverage verification to Claims Department consistent with experience.
• Market to assigned agencies to generate new business flow.
• Assess agency activity and clarify company positions during annual visits.
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for an Inland Marine & Property Underwriter from our Naperville or Rolling Meadows, Illinois location.

We're looking for someone who's ready to play a meaningful role in expanding our presence across the region. You'll manage an existing portfolio while actively building new business, helping grow our footprint in a region that's a key focus for us. This is a role for someone who wants to make an impact, not just maintain the status quo.

This isn't a behind-the-scenes role. It's visible, collaborative, and growth focused. This position follows a hybrid schedule: in the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.

Responsibilities:

• Review and analyze underwriting files, using judgment and experience as primary criteria, to accept new business or continue renewals within established authority level
• Review and analyze all documents within or associated with the underwriting file to establish accuracy in identification and minimizing risk of exposure, utilizing change requests, claim information, loss control and outside databases to identify changes in exposure to risk
• Review, evaluate and determine account premium levels using sound judgment consistent with established company premium modification plans within authority limits
• Read, evaluate and interpret contracts and policies to determine exposures providing guidance and clarification to others consistent with experience
• Provide clarification and verification of coverage to the Claims Department consistent with experience
• Market to assigned agencies to achieve acceptable new business flow
• Assess agency activity; provide clarification to agency personnel about company's position in annual visits to assigned agencies consistent with experience
• Perform other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

Must-Have:

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• 2+ years of inland marine and/or property underwriting experience
• Solid understanding of the insurance marketplace, including pricing and competitive positioning
• Proven ability to build and maintain broker relationships that drive new and renewal business
• Experience managing a book of business while contributing to growth
• Strong skills in pricing, risk selection, and deal structuring
• Working knowledge of industry trends, products, and the broader competitive landscape
• To qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes

Preferred to Have:

• Industry designations CPCU, ARM, or AU
• INS21, 22 and 23
• Exposure to loss control or risk engineering

Compensation:

Please note, that the annual gross salary range associated with this posting is $55,200 - $133,700. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographical location related to this specific role. The total compensation will include a base salary, performance-based bonus opportunities, 401(K) match, profit‑sharing opportunities, and more.
