Job Description
Custom Property – Underwriter II
Responsibilities:
- Review submissions to determine acceptability within our risk appetite, focusing on high complexity risks.
- Maintain underwriting discipline and adhere to bottom-line underwriting philosophy.
- Work within designated authority levels and seek approvals as necessary.
- Document files comprehensively, including underwriting thought processes.
- Manage assigned clients efficiently, including regular visits, quarterly profitability reviews, and identifying broker conflicts and successes.
- Assist in developing annual business goals for agents/producers.
- Analyze results and ensure accountability of agency partners.
- Prioritize service and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with other profit centers to promote consistency.
- Review renewals 90-120 days prior to expiration, determine appropriate notices, and identify risks requiring referrals.
- Present concerning renewals for referral at least 30 days before inception.
- Review modeling data for risk changes.
- Process admitted renewals through the rating system, ensuring compliance with filed rates.
- Verify claims data, subjectivities, and loss control compliance.
- Underwrite new business within risk appetite.
- Participate in training and development initiatives for underwriter trainees.
- Stay informed on market trends, competition, and industry events.
- Maintain working knowledge of other departments supporting underwriting.
Accounting and Finance:
- Understand treaty capacity (FAC RE).
- Place reinsurance according to corporate guidelines.
Requirements:
- 3 to 5 years of Property Underwriting experience.
- Experience working with wholesale brokers.
- Strong technical, marketing, communication, negotiation, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of market and regulatory environment.
- College degree or equivalent preferred; ARM, CPCU, MBA are pluses.
Position location: Remote within the Mid Atlantic Region (NJ, DE, MD, VA, eastern PA).
