Commercial Real Estate Underwriter II-Arizona Remote

This role is responsible for assisting UMB relationship managers in the assessment and underwriting of new SBCRE (Small Balance Commercial Real Estate) managed investment loans (non-owner occupied CRE loans $1,000,000 to $5,000,000) in accordance with established underwriting policies, practices and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with UMB relationship managers to perform credit underwriting duties for existing or prospective client relationships.
  • Perform detailed credit analysis to determine borrower/guarantor repayment capacity.
  • Provide appropriate loan structuring recommendations.
  • Complete all or portions of the credit packages (as agreed with the relationship manager) for submission to credit committee for approval (new business and renewals).
  • Prepare underwriting documents including collateral analysis on multiple asset classes and the preparation of pricing and risk rating models suitable for each credit request.
  • Present loan submissions to the UMB senior loan committee on behalf of relationship managers and answer questions related to the review and approval of the loan (as requested).
  • Review appraisal upon receipt to confirm appraisal assumptions align with underwriting assumptions and satisfy any approval conditions.
  • Provide recurring customer service to existing and prospective clients, including direct contact with customers through joint sales calls with relationship managers or direct correspondence with clients, while maintaining UMB TUCE (The Unparalleled Customer Experience).
  • File all required forms and reports and resolve related issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with loan operations, credit analysis, regional commercial banking, business banking, special asset management, loan review, public finance, capital markets and international banking to coordinate commercial loan decisions, the closing process, and ongoing commercial loan administration.
  • Lead or participate in REG underwriting related projects as available.
  • May mentor less experienced REG underwriters and/or portfolio managers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related fields.
  • 5+ years of commercial banking experience (including CRE) with credit underwriting.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Expert knowledge in identifying and processing maturing loans, line renewals, term loans that need to be extended, loan restructurings, approval processes, and new underwriting.
  • Expert understanding of credit underwriting for all major investment CRE property types and strong knowledge of bank products, services, and operations.
  • Ability to interpret policies/procedures, loan contracts, credit reports, financial statements and loan documents.
  • Strong analytical skills in underwriting CRE properties and markets; including guarantor financial statements and real estate schedules.
  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to transfer knowledge to less experienced peers.
  • Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and commercial lending software.

Compensation

$69,230.00 - $149,000.00

The posted compensation range represents UMB’s standard for this role and may vary by geographic location, experience level, and other job-related factors. This range does not encompass the full earning potential for this role. Benefits information is provided with the job posting.
