Job summary

USI Insurance Services in Atlanta, GA seeks an experienced underwriter to assess, price, and bind risk for intermediate cases, coordinating with brokers and carriers to deliver competitive premiums. The role involves analyzing applications, claims history, and notes to determine risk acceptability under established guidelines.

Candidates should have 3+ years underwriting experience, a high school diploma, and any required P&C licensure.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of underwriting experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• For direct client service/underwriting, Property & Casualty and/or appropriate business licensure is required.
• Broad knowledge of insurance industry.
• Strong mathematical and negotiation abilities.

Responsibilities

• Under limited supervision, analyze and determine the acceptability of risks, evaluating applications, claims history, and file notes.
• Underwrite and price exposures in accordance with filed rates and guidelines; bring policy to completion including binding coverage, invoicing, and policy issuance.
• Coordinate risk assessment with Underwriting team as needed and communicate with agents to obtain supplemental information.
• Analyze and rate endorsement requests and issue/track notices and cancellations in compliance with regulations.
• Assist manager in establishing underwriting policy and procedures; travel up to 10% for educational development or client relationships.

General Description: Assess risks of an intermediate nature, develop, and negotiate premiums. Manage relationships with brokers and carriers. Provide appropriate insurance products to clients. Generate profit in accordance with company goals.

Responsibilities:

• Under limited supervision, analyze and determine the acceptability of risks. Includes evaluating the application, website, claims history, and file notes.
• Obtain supplementary information as needed to underwrite policy.
• Determine the desirability of accepting or rejecting risks within guidelines.
• Coordinate risk assessment with Underwriting team as needed.
• Underwrite and price exposures in accordance with filed and approved rate levels and guidelines. Bring policy to completion with recommending and binding coverage, invoicing, and policy issuance.
• Identify the need, order, and evaluate additional risk assessment information.
• Communicate with agents to obtain supplemental underwriting information as needed.
• Analyze and rate endorsement requests.
• Issue and track conditional/non-renewal notices and cancellations. Adhere to regulatory compliance.
• Maintain knowledge of policy terms and endorsements.
• Assist manager in establishing underwriting policy and procedures.
• May require some travel for educational development or client relationship building.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• 3+ years of underwriting experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• For direct client service/underwriting, Property & Casualty and/or appropriate business licensure is required.
• Broad knowledge of insurance industry.
• Ability to negotiate with strong mathematical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
