This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, working in-office (Lake Mary, FL; San Antonio, TX; Frisco, TX) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
The Commercial Surety Bond Underwriter Associate is a key partner within the National Surety Office, supporting underwriting teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This role provides new business and renewal support, leveraging strong Surety and industry knowledge to contribute to the success and profitability of the Bond organization.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an environment that meets Hartford Bond service objectives, conforming to underwriting standards and policies.
- Handle simple underwriting cases within limited authority, demonstrating Surety knowledge and risk analysis skills.
- Gather data, perform internet research, and interface with agents and customers to ensure information accuracy.
- Screen incoming business requests according to underwriting criteria and business appetite.
- Build productive relationships with regional offices, agents, and clients to promote service excellence.
- Remain calm and clear-headed in stressful situations, demonstrating patience with diverse customers unfamiliar with Hartford processes.
- Establish as the main point of contact within the assigned territory.
- Proactively maintain underwriting files and run reports for portfolio management.
- Identify and assist in problem-solving efforts.
- Provide backup support to team members and participate in process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of business experience in the Surety Bond industry.
- Preferably a 2-year college degree or equivalent business experience in Surety Bonds.
- AFSB or NASBP training preferred; experience in analytics, finance, or accounting is a plus.
- Strong technology skills and proficiency with PC systems.
- Basic understanding of financial statements and rate/premium calculations.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently.
- Effective time management skills, able to meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
- Adaptable to change and able to work East Coast hours.

Compensation
The annual base pay ranges from $66,880 to $100,320, depending on experience and performance. Compensation may include bonuses and other incentives.
