Job summary

University of Texas at Austin’s Advanced Technology Laboratory seeks a NSW Software Engineering Scientist Associate to support software development for undersea sensor systems used on Naval Special Warfare platforms. The role requires C++ and Python, strong OOP, and participation in the full software lifecycle.

Applicants must be a US citizen, capable of travel for field tests, and eligible for a security investigation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or other related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with C++.
  • Demonstrated experience with Python.
  • Thorough understanding of object-oriented programming concepts, data structures/design patterns/algorithm performance analysis.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with common application debugging tools.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating system as a primary desktop.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and collaborate with team members to design and develop new software features and maintain existing software solutions
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure development best practices are followed to adhere to existing coding standards and performance requirements
  • Prioritize testing throughout the software development lifecycle to help identify and resolve issues
  • Document software solutions, support procedures, and troubleshooting guides to foster knowledge share across all teams
  • Support of travel activities associated with system acceptance testing in the field
  • Troubleshoot hardware interactions and debug issues identified during system integration activities in support of on-time delivery of the system
  • Other related functions as assigned
