Job summary

Cleveland Thermal, part of Corix, is seeking a hands-on field technician to work on underground steam and chilled water infrastructure beneath a major city. You will troubleshoot problems, perform repairs, operate equipment, and keep critical systems running year-round.

This role spends about 95% outdoors, with tasks ranging from diagnosing manhole issues to pipework, setting up job sites, and documenting work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Mechanical aptitude and some construction or field experience.
• Preferred: 3+ years in underground utility construction.
• Exposure to welding/pipefitting, heavy equipment operation, or HVAC/mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair underground steam and chilled water piping networks.
• Inspect and document underground manholes and components.
• Troubleshoot distribution and HVAC systems including valves and steam traps.
• Set up job sites and work with crew on underground excavation and repairs.
• Operate heavy equipment, blowers, pumps, and air compressors.
• Respond to emergency call-outs calmly and professionally.
• Provide daily reports, vehicle inspections, and logs to the Energy Infrastructure Manager.
