OceanaGold Corporation’s Haile Gold Mine in South Carolina seeks an Underground Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of mining equipment for safe and efficient operations.
You will work underground and on surface with strong technical skills, following OEM manuals and site procedures, while training apprentices and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

The Underground Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing awide range of mining equipment and light vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves both underground and surface work on mobile and fixed equipment, requiring strong technical expertise, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work in challenging conditions.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, and repairs on underground and surface mining equipment,including:
Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems to diagnose faults and implement effectivesolutions.
Conduct field repairs in underground workings as required, minimizing downtime and ensuring equipment is safely returned toservice.
Follow OEM manuals, technical prints, and site-specific maintenance procedures.
Complete accurate work orders, PM checklists, and equipment servicerecords.
Always maintain safe work practices, including proper lockout/tagout, JHA completion, and compliance with mine site safetypolicies.
Collaborate with operations, supervisors, and other maintenance personnel to prioritize repairs and support productionneeds.
Provide feedback on equipment condition, recurring issues, and recommend improvements to reliability and performance.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and assist in training apprentices or juniormechanics.
Work performed both underground in amining environment and on surface in workshops or yardfacilities.
Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, diesel emissions, and varying temperatures.
Use of PPE always required (hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves,etc.).
Excellent problem-solving skills with complex problems, including both definition of the problem and generation and evaluation ofsolutions.
Excellent planning and organizational skills, including goal setting, group performance monitoring and the ability to modify priorities where necessary to achieve thesegoals.
The ability to decide from arange of competing options where the outcomes are not entirely predictable.
Effective written and oral communication skills, and the ability to convince others to co-operate andcontribute.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear andsee.
Must be able to work shift work with 12 -hourshifts.
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during theworkday.
Work is in asurface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature andhumidity.
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in amine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment asrequired.
