Job Description

Responsible for managing and overseeing mechanical construction of the leach plant circuit expansion, paste plant and surface facilities for the underground projects. The role will involve the management of construction contractors, overseeing the quality control of contractor work, and work with the owner’s team to ensure implementation of best practices for maintenance and operation of new equipment andfacilities.

- Actively promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contractpersonnel.
- Reporting all personal injuries and incidents and assisting with investigations.
- Actively supporting and participate in safety and environmental initiatives.
- Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and the safety of others whilst protecting the environment.
- Monitor the reporting of workplace incidents and hazards to ensure effective risk mitigation ismaintained.
- Undertake workplace inspections and audits to ensure site standards are being adheredto.
- Coordinate incident investigations that occur within area ofcontrol.
Operational
- Participates in planning meetings to review drawings, determine priorities, and assist in scheduling thework.
- Establishes and monitors mechanical construction methods and practices for most effective cost control for work schedule, labor, materials, and equipmentneeds.
- Works with project manager for the control, care/protection, and use of tools, equipment, and company assets onsite.
- Confers with supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to maximize efficiency and preventdelays.
- Assists project manager and engineer with change orders and extra workrequests.
- Works with project engineer to schedule major process equipmentdeliveries
- Coordinates mechanical work with civil and electricalwork
- Coordinates with process equipment vendors atstart-up.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure the likelihood that workmanship conforms to specifications and meets construction schedules.
- Meets regularly with engineer and inspectors regarding required work, quality of work, and other job-related issues.
- Confers with project manager, engineer, and inspectors to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
- Assists in preparation of progress reports, materials, and job-related costs.
- Assists project manager with project closeout.
- Coordinate efficiency and relationships between all key personnel involved with theproject.
- Maintain astrong line of communication &reporting on key performance indicators to the Construction Manager and OperationsTeams.
- Assist with transitioning projects to the operational phase.
- Performs other duties asassigned.
People andLeadership:
- Establish and maintain aproductive project culture through effective people management and teambuilding.
- Monitor the contractor teams and align their activities as necessary to ensure requirements areachieved.
- Communicate regularly with all staff to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood and to promote aharmonious working environment.
Technical:
- Knowledge of surface mining plants and equipment inparticular:
- Leach tank circuits – Gold Mine ProcessPlant
- Surface PastePlant
- Surface workshop andwarehouse
- Surface officefacilities
- Surface and underground pumping infrastructure
- Surface Ventilation Fans
- Manage the flow of technical information between mechanics, contractors, electricians, and mineoperations.
- Actively exchange technical information and learnings within the organization to maintain awareness of internal projects, developments andtrends
Risk:
- Identifying and managing risks and opportunities for mining construction by the Projectsgroup.
Quality:
- Ensure all activities within area of control are completed to the specifications nominated for the works beingundertaken.
- Ensure all works under area of control are completed to astandard that is fit for purpose and meets the end users’ requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employeeis regularly required tostand, sit,demonstratemanual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear andsee.
- Must be able to work shift work with 12 -hourshifts.
- Occasionally may berequiredto lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during theworkday.
- Work is in asurface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature andhumidity.
- Personal protective equipment isrequiredwhen performing work in amine environment, including hardhat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing,glovesand any other protective equipment asrequired.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with surface facilities for ahard rockoperation
- 15 + years’ relevant experience of which 5 + years would have been in asenior construction role
- Experienced with both start-up projects and operating environments.
- Trade Qualifications or Degree in Engineering or related discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical).
- MSHA 40 HR Trained or past MSHAtraining
- Ability to manage dispute resolution and issues effecting projectdelivery.
- Strong results orientation and ability to consistently deliver against theplan.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative working style, building strong internal and external relationships.
- A hands-on approach to the management of staff, contractors andprojects.
- Ability to work harmoniously in cross cultural environments.
- Ability to engage external consultants and contractors.
- Excellent planning, organizing and prioritization capabilities.
- A motivated self-starter who can operate autonomously and is anatural leader.
- A high degree of computer literacy is required, with effective skills in MS productsdesired.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues
