Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation urgently seeks an Underground Lubrication Technician for the Round Mountain operation in Nevada. You will fuel, grease, and service underground mobile equipment, run scheduled maintenance, and keep precise CMMS records.

You’ll work with mechanics to perform inspections, minor repairs, and maintain lubrication inventories. The role requires 1–3 years of relevant experience, basic mechanical skills, and a willingness to obtain MSHA and site training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years lubrication/fuel and lube or heavy equipment maintenance experience required.
  • Working knowledge of lubrication principles including grease application, oil properties, filtration and contamination control.
  • General understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, drivetrain components, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Basic mechanical skills with ability to perform minor repairs and assist mechanics.
  • Ability to complete service records, inspections, and work orders in a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage servicing schedules with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to obtain underground MSHA and site-specific training.

Responsibilities

  • Fuel, grease, and lubricate underground equipment (loaders, haul trucks, jumbos, bolters, etc.).
  • Perform scheduled service: oil changes, filter changes, coolant checks, greasing.
  • Maintain lubrication systems and reservoirs.
  • Operate and maintain underground lube/service vehicle and perform pre-operational checks.
  • Maintain record of servicing, fluid usage, hours, and inspections.
  • Execute work orders and document findings in CMMS (JD Edwards).
  • Coordinate servicing with underground operations to reduce downtime.
  • Assist mechanics with inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs.
  • Maintain inventory of lubricants, oils, filters, and related supplies.

Job description

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio.

Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.

The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.

Job Description
  • Fuel, grease, and lubricate underground mobile equipment including loaders (LHDs), haul trucks, jumbos, bolters, utility vehicles, and support equipment.
  • Perform scheduled service including oil changes, oil top-ups, filter changes, coolant checks, and greasing of all required service points.
  • Ensure automatic lubrication systems and grease reservoirs are filled and functioning correctly.
  • Operate and maintain the underground lube/service vehicle, including pre-operational inspections, product levels, and hose and reel condition.
  • Maintain proper fluid levels in the service vehicle and ensure tools and supplies are properly stowed.
  • Safely operate and move mining equipment as required for servicing.
  • Perform equipment inspections and report early signs of failure such as leaks, contamination, abnormal noise, overheating, excessive wear, and damage.
  • Identify and report findings from magnetic plugs, filters, and lubrication systems to mechanics and supervision.
  • Assist with oil sampling activities following established procedures and maintain sample integrity.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment servicing, fluid usage, hour readings, and inspection findings.
  • Execute assigned work orders and document findings in computerized maintenance management systems such as JD Edwards.
  • Coordinate servicing activities with underground operations and maintenance personnel to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Assist mechanics with inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor mechanical repairs as directed.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of service kits, lubricants, oils, filters, and related supplies.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in underground service areas, lube storage areas, and the service vehicle.
  • Follow proper lubricant selection, storage, labeling, handling, and filtration practices to protect component life.
  • Prevent, control, and report any fuel, oil, or lubricant spills in accordance with environmental requirements.
  • Comply with all MSHA regulations, underground safety procedures, ground control, ventilation, isolation, and Permit to Work requirements.
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments and comply with all company policies including safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others; punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications And Experience

  • Valid driver’s license issued by a state agency, or ability to pass a driver competency course and exam, required.
  • Must be able to meet “Authorized User” requirements for High Risk Activities, including but not limited to Fall Protection and Confined Space, per Round Mountain Gold Corporation’s Permit to Work policies.
