Job summary

Big Country Equipment is seeking an experienced Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic to service and repair underground mining equipment. This shop-based role operates on a 14-days-on, 14-days-off rotation, with housing provided and flights paid from Canada.

You will diagnose, repair, and test bolters, jumbos, and hydraulic drills, ensuring safety and reliability. Requirements include 3+ years in heavy-duty or mining equipment, proficiency with underground equipment brands, and a valid trade license.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a heavy-duty mechanic, preferably underground mining.
• Familiarity with underground equipment (bolters, scoops, jumbos, hydraulic drills) is required.
• Experience with Maclean Bolters is essential.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Red Seal or provincial trade certification is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair underground mining equipment (bolters, scoops, jumbos, drills).
• Repair drivetrains, transmissions, and hydraulic systems; replace components as needed.
• Use diagnostic tools and maintain detailed service reports.
• Complete work orders promptly while following safety protocols.
• Perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability of underground equipment.
• Test repaired equipment and suggest performance improvements.

Job description

Base Rate: $ 62.50/hr.
OT: After 8 hours daily, paid at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.
Accommodations: Company housing is provided at no additional cost
Flights Paid: Yes, fly into the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools Provided: Tools will be provided
Travel Allowance: A travel allowance will be provided upon arrival and upon departure from your 14-day shift rotation.

Big Country Equipment is hiring an experienced licensed Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic (Equipment Technician) to perform shop repairs on underground mining equipment. This is a rotational shop-based opportunity working a 14-days-on, 14-days-off schedule. Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics and Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered with strong, relevant experience repairing heavy or off-road equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair underground mining equipment, including bolters, scoops, jumbos, hydraulic drills, and other heavy machinery.
• Perform repairs on drivetrains, transmissions, and hydraulic systems, including replacing components and gears as needed.
• Utilize computerized diagnostic tools and testing equipment to identify issues and maintain detailed service reports.
• Complete scheduled and unscheduled work orders promptly while adhering to safety protocols.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and ensure the reliability of underground equipment in challenging environments.
• Test repaired equipment to verify functionality and recommend improvements to optimize performance and reliability.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of recent experience working as a heavy-duty mechanic, preferably in underground mining or resource industries.
• Familiarity with underground equipment, such as bolters, scoops, jumbos, and hydraulic drills, is required.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with Maclean Bolters, as these will be the primary equipment you will be working on.
• Experience with key equipment brands such as Sandvik, Liebherr, Epiroc, CAT, and Komatsu is an asset.
• Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification is preferred.
• Truck and Transport Mechanics or Agricultural Equipment Technicians will be considered; must have experience with mining equipment.
• Red Seal certification is preferred but is not required for candidates who hold a valid provincial trade certification recognized in the province where they will work.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Commitment to working safely in confined spaces and underground conditions.

All Successful Candidates Must:

• Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
• Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
• Pass a Criminal Record check.
• Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
• Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
• Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
• Not seeking subcontractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).
