Job summary

Universal Services is seeking an Underground Foreman to lead and manage a field crew in underground construction, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency on all projects. You will locate for directional drilling, coordinate daily work plans with Project Managers, and maintain high standards of professionalism on site.

Responsibilities include supervising crews, ensuring proper site setup, and submitting reports, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and timely completion.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in underground telecommunications or utility construction.
• Minimum of 2 years of proven leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong experience locating for directional drilling operations (required).
• Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction prints, permits, and job plans.
• In-depth knowledge of safe work practices, utility locating, and underground installation processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage underground construction crews in daily field operations and production.
• Perform accurate and consistent locating for directional drills to ensure safe borepaths.
• Coordinate work plans, materials, and schedules with Project Managers and Coordinators.
• Conduct pre-job inspections and confirm all utilities are located and potholed prior to work.
• Ensure proper jobsite setup and teardown, including traffic control and safety measures.
• Oversee crew performance, safety compliance, and job quality on every project.
• Operate drilling or locating equipment as needed to maintain production goals.
• Complete and submit daily reports, production logs, as-builts, and safety documentation.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, inspectors, and internal stakeholders.
• Identify and report vehicle and equipment maintenance needs to Fleet Services.
