Qualifications

  • Experience working in underground mining environments is preferred but not required.

The U.S. division is seeking a skilled Underground Field Mechanic to support drilling operations.

This position is a travel-based role supporting Major Drilling America's underground operations across the United States. Employees work a 20 days on/10 days off rotation and may be assigned to any Major Drilling underground project or maintenance facility as business needs require. Frequent travel between underground mine sites, shops, and remote project locations is required. Candidates must be comfortable working in a variety of weather conditions, underground mining environments, and remote locations with limited communication and close living quarters.

Summary

The Underground Field Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing underground drilling rigs, vehicles, and support equipment at various Major Drilling underground operations. This position works on a 20/10 rotational schedule and requires extensive travel to underground job sites and maintenance facilities. The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with site supervision and maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work safely while actively reinforcing company safety standards and procedures.
  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain underground drilling equipment, vehicles, and support equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs in accordance with company maintenance programs and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Work under the guidance of Maintenance Management and site supervision to prioritize and complete assigned repairs.
  • Travel to and support various underground mine sites, shops, and maintenance facilities throughout the United States.
  • Maintain accurate service and maintenance records in accordance with Major Drilling standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the Maintenance Coordinator to ensure necessary parts, tools, and supplies are available.
  • Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and maintenance recommendations to supervisors and operations personnel.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and comply with all travel requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills, Education & Experience

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

  • 1-3 years of mechanical, heavy equipment, mining, construction, diesel, or related industry experience preferred.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing mobile equipment, heavy equipment, drill rigs, or support equipment is an asset.
  • Experience working in underground mining environments is preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work a 20 days on/10 days off rotation.
  • Position may be based out of any Major Drilling underground operation within the United States.
  • Must provide and maintain a personal set of basic hand and power tools required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations while maintaining effective communication with supervisors and support teams.
