Job summary

CK Contractors and Development LLC is seeking an Underground Fiber Optic Operator to install and maintain underground fiber cables, conduits, and related equipment with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.

You’ll perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather, operate trenching and boring machinery, and collaborate closely with crew members and supervisors to complete projects on time. The role includes outdoor work hours, PPE, and on-the-job training to grow skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in underground utility construction or fiber optic work is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to learn and participate in on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical labor for underground fiber optic construction (digging, conduit, cable).
• Operate trenching and boring machinery and related equipment.
• Assist with utility locating and verification using maps and flagging.
• Follow safety policies, wear PPE, and participate in safety briefings.
• Maintain tools, repair equipment as needed, and support crew members.
• Interact professionally with property owners and the public.
• Coordinate with supervisors to ensure timely project completion.

Job Summary

Join our crew as an Underground Fiber Optic Operator and play a critical role in building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our high-speed network. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient installation of underground fiber optic cables, conduits, and equipment. This physically demanding role requires precision, strong teamwork, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Essential Tasks

• Perform the physical labor necessary for underground fiber optic construction, including digging trenches, laying conduit, and pulling cable.
• Operate heavy machinery such as directional boring equipment, excavators, trenchers, and plows.
• Assist with job site setup, including locating and verifying existing utilities using maps and flagging.
• Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including participating in daily safety briefings and wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist with repairing or replacing damaged equipment and maintaining tools and vehicles.
• Work cooperatively with other crew members and communicate effectively with supervisors.
• Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with property owners and the public.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in underground utility construction, fiber optic installation, or a related field is preferred, but motivated candidates will be trained.
• Familiarity with basic hand and power tools.
• Understanding of basic construction principles.
• Knowledge of fiber optic color codes is a plus.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other environmental elements
• Position involves physically demanding labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling materials weighing 50 pounds or more
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and working in and around trenches for extended periods
• Exposure to construction equipment, noise, dust, uneven terrain, and active job sites
• Extended hours, overtime, overnight, and weekend work may be required based on project schedules
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

Work Hours

The normal work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm, with extended hours and required overtime when needed; May also include overnight and weekend work depending on project schedules.

Pay

Pay Range is $16.00–$30.00 per hour.

We have established pay ranges based on experience and skill level. Our available positions range in skill level from Level 1 (entry level) to Level 6 (specialized skill & training).
