Job summary

Johnston Contracting Inc. in Midland, Michigan is seeking a seasoned field supervisor to oversee underground construction projects from start to finish. You will coordinate materials, lead crews, and ensure schedules and budgets are met while maintaining a safe, productive work site.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in underground construction, blueprint interpretation, and strong safety discipline. CDL-A and certifications such as HAZWOPER are highly valued for site versatility and compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of underground construction experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and execute job layout.
• Basic math/geometry to determine area, elevation, and pitch for excavation plans.
• Competence in soil analysis and recognizing ground conditions.
• Experience with trenching, shoring, sloping and shielding.
• Ability to operate laser level/transit and use common surveying tools.
• Knowledge of removal/installation of underground utilities and line openings.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage construction projects from start to finish from the field level.
• Coordinate job-site materials and equipment as needed.
• Provide quality leadership and opportunities for crew development.
• Stay ahead of schedules and budgets provided.
• Maintain a positive and productive job site.
• Enforce job site and LIC safety standards with attention to detail.
• Communicate effectively with crew, leadership, and customers.
