Job summary

Spectrum is seeking a Construction Technician to build and maintain our network infrastructure in various outdoor environments. You will support construction projects, load and secure materials, and work on aerial and underground components with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry-level candidates welcome; training provided.
  • Maintain close vision; differentiate wire sizes and colors.
  • Lift 75 lbs, use a 28-foot ladder; climb poles with safety gear.
  • Work in tight spaces; crawl, bend, reach and twist.
  • Travel to territories; work outside in all weather.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and software.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow safety requirements on construction projects.
  • Move, secure, load and unload cable equipment, tools and materials.
  • Dig and restore holes; bury conduit and cables.
  • Pull lasher, strand and cable between poles for aerial network.
  • Perform traffic control and flagging for safe worksites.
  • Operate and maintain crew vehicles.

Job description

As a Construction Technician at Spectrum, you'll play a vital role in building and maintaining our network infrastructure. How You'll Make an Impact
  • Understand and follow safety requirements and standards while supporting various construction projects
  • Move, secure, load and unload cable equipment, tools and materials
  • Dig and restore holes and trenches, bury conduit and cables to support network construction
  • Pull lasher, strand and cable between poles to build aerial network infrastructure
  • Perform traffic control and flagging to ensure safe worksites
  • Operate and maintain crew vehicles
Working Conditions
  • Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night, including in poorly ventilated areas
  • Stand 50-70% of the time, carry and operate extension ladders, and climb poles as required
  • Travel weekly with overnight stays as business needs dictate
  • Work overtime, weekends or second shifts and participate in on-call rotation as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience
    • Entry‑level candidates welcome; we provide training.
  • Skills
    • Close, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Differentiate wire sizes and colors.
    • Lift 75 pounds, carry and operate a 28‑foot, 75‑pound ladder, and climb poles using gaffs, hooks, and a climbing belt (350‑pound weight limit).
    • Work in tight spaces, crawling, bending, reaching, and twisting.
    • Travel to assigned territories and company facilities, even in bad weather. Work outside for long periods in all seasons and weather.
    • Familiarity with computer systems and software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic math skills.
  • Knowledge of basic testing equipment (e.g., ohm meters).
  • Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain one.
