Job summary

Barnard Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a Quality & Environmental Manager to oversee ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 systems and drive continuous improvement across projects in North America.

The role requires leading NCR handling, audits, and regulatory compliance, with travel to project sites as needed. Ideal candidates will have 7+ years in quality and environmental management, internal auditor training, and experience reading plans for structural concrete work, based in or willing to relocate

Qualifications

• Experience in operating ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 compliant management systems.
• At least seven years of quality and environmental management experience.
• Trained as an internal auditor.
• Ability to read and understand plans and specifications, including rebar shop drawings for structural concrete work.
• Willingness to travel and relocate for domestic and international sites.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 compliant management systems.
• Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), including root cause analysis.
• Assist department leads and projects in developing and improving processes.
• Continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Maintain the legal compliance registers.
• Conduct regular quality and environmental reviews and audits.
• Coordinate quality and environmental activities with field engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
• Maintain client liaison and communicate quality/environmental progress to the Project Manager.

The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of quality and environmental experience including operating ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 compliant management systems. Work will be to maintain and improve quality and environmental systems to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field. Equivalent experience in a construction-related position will also be considered.
• Must be willing to travel and relocate. Project sites are located domestically and internationally, so relocation and/or travel are required.
• Over 7 years of experience in quality and environmental management.
• Experience of operating ISO 9001 and 14001 management systems.
• Membership of a relevant professional organizations.
• Trained as an internal auditor.
• Experience in the construction industry, engineering or related fields (preferably heavy civil engineering including tunnels, dams and reservoirs, transportation and pipelines)
• Strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to read and understand plans and specifications, including rebar shop drawings for structural concrete work.
• Ability to perform pre-placement and placement inspections for structural concrete.
• U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Quality Management for Contractors Certification (USACE CQM-C).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
