Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking an Undergraduate Student Success Specialist to support academic success and progression of undergraduate College of Pharmacy students. You will use student success data to identify at-risk students, provide proactive outreach, and develop individualized academic plans in collaboration with advisors and faculty.

The role oversees mentorship programs, leadership development, and supervision of front-desk staff, with a hybrid work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors undergraduate student academic progress and identifies at-risk students.
  • Meets with students to develop individualized academic improvement plans.
  • Uses performance and early-alert data to identify students needing outreach.
  • Develops individualized academic success plans with advisors, faculty and partners.
  • Conducts proactive outreach to students experiencing academic challenges.
  • Monitors progression toward completion of requirements and milestones.
  • Manages progression/academic status reports and presents to the Undergraduate Studies Committee.
  • Develops strategies to reduce delayed progression and improve on-time graduation with advising team.

Job Title: Undergraduate Student Success Specialist

Department: Pharmacy | Academic Affairs

The Undergraduate Student Success Specialist will support the academic success, retention, and progression of undergraduate students in the College of Pharmacy by using student success data to identify students who may be at risk and providing proactive outreach and individualized academic support. The position will monitor academic progress, manage progression reports, and collaborate with the advising team to improve on-time graduation. The role will also lead undergraduate mentorship and leadership development programs, including mentor selection and training, events, and leadership workshops, as well as hire, train, and supervise student front-desk staff. The position will be supervised by the Senior Student Success Specialist, creating a structure that promotes collaboration and consistency across student success efforts.

Undergraduate Retention & Academic Progression: 60%
  • Monitors undergraduate student academic progress and identifies undergraduate students who may be at risk for academic difficulty, delayed progression, withdrawal, or non-completion
  • Meets with undergraduate students experiencing academic challenges to assist in the development of individualized academic improvement plans
  • Uses academic performance, early-alert information, academic standing, course outcomes, and other student success data to identify students requiring proactive outreach
  • Develops individualized academic success plans in collaboration with students, academic advisors, faculty, and other appropriate partners
  • Conducts proactive outreach to students experiencing academic challenges
  • Monitors students' progress toward completion of academic requirements and expected progression milestones
  • Manages undergraduate progression/academic status reports and presents information to the Undergraduate Studies Committee
  • Develops strategies to reduce delayed progression and improve on-time graduation, along with the academic advising team
Mentorship and Leadership Development: 35%
  • Develops mentor programs at the undergraduate level to help students build upon their skills/professional knowledge and connect with university/college resources.
  • Plans and executes special events that bring together mentors and mentees
  • Leads the selection of mentors for mentor programs, trains mentors and leads mentors in developing programs
  • Develops leadership workshops for students
Other Duties: 5%
  • Other duties as assigned, supports the Office of Student Success with special events, and supports student workers in the Office of Student Success
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.

Additional Information: The pay range for this job profile is $21.35/hour - $27.88/hour. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications. The College of Pharmacy believes in a healthy work/life balance, therefore, the work arrangement for this position is hybrid (i.e., remote and in-office), subject to change based upon the needs of the organization and as determined by College Leadership.
