JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Boyle lab is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate for Spring 2025 to assist with research on the effects of pesticides on solitary bees. The project involves indoor trials with Osmia cornifrons, exposing them to insecticides at various concentrations, and analyzing sperm vitality and ovary size. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in experimental design, microscopy, dissection, and data analysis, fostering critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.

The position runs from April 2025 to May, with potential extension through the summer. Commitment is 15-20 hours per week, paid at $15/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with lab work, including rearing bees.
  • Contribute to experiments estimating sublethal pesticide effects.
  • Record and analyze bee survival data.
  • Data entry, curation, and statistical analysis.
  • Assist in preparing research reports and publications.

Requirements:

  • Good communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Previous lab or toxicological research experience is preferred.
