Overview

The University Center for Human Values (UCHV) fosters ongoing inquiry into ethical questions arising in private and public life. It supports teaching, research, and discussion of ethics and human values throughout the curriculum and across the disciplines at Princeton University. UCHV appoints or jointly appoints its own faculty and is home to a number of programs and activities, including (but not limited to): the Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellowship, the Graduate Prize Fellowship, the Values and Public Life (VPL) undergraduate minor, a cohort of early career scholars, an interdisciplinary colloquium on ethics and public affairs, and a lecture series on ethics and political philosophy. Each academic year, UCHV hosts a wide range of public events on topics related to human values, broadly defined.

UCHV seeks an Undergraduate/Graduate Administrator who will be primarily responsible for all aspects of the Center’s undergraduate and graduate programming, as well as UCHV's course administration. The Undergraduate/Graduate Administrator reports directly to the Center’s Assistant Director and Director. In addition, they will work closely with the the Director of the Values and Public Life (VPL) undergraduate minor, the Director of Early-Career Research, and the Director of Graduate Studies for the Political Philosophy Interdepartmental Degree Program. The Undergraduate/Graduate Administrator will be expected to exercise good judgment and to work independently as required.

Responsibilities

Support UCHV's Undergraduate Student Programming

  • Serve as the main administrator for the Values and Public Life (VPL) minor. Oversee student recruitment, applications, and enrollment. Ensure students meet all academic requirements for program completion. Plan and execute all aspects of key events, including senior thesis workshops, VPL Student Conference, and Class Day celebrations.
  • Provide administrative support for the Human Values Forum (HVF), an undergraduate student group.
  • Manage the nomination/application, award, and fund disbursement process for all undergraduate prizes and funding, including UCHV's Senior Thesis Prize and Short Movie Prize competitions.

Support UCHV's Graduate Student and Early Career Scholar Programming

  • Serve as the main administrator for the Laurance S. Rockefeller Graduate Prize Fellowship (GPF) program. Specific responsibilities include managing GPF funding in SAFE and supporting meetings of "CHV 599 -Dissertation Seminar" including scheduling, announcements, catering, and technology set-up.
  • Serve as the main administrator for the the Political Philosophy Interdepartmental Ph.D. Program. Specific responsibilities include overseeing the Political Philosophy Travel and Research Grant process.
  • Support UCHV's postdoctoral research associates with all aspects of the cohort's practice job talks and professional development sessions.

Undergraduate and Graduate Course Administration

  • Manage all aspects of UCHV's undergraduate and graduate courses and adhere to all deadlines applicable to academic planning.
  • Recruit and assign preceptors as needed.
  • Inform faculty and lecturers of course requirements and deadlines; orient new faculty and researchers to course planning and administration at Princeton University.
  • Update the UCHV Undergraduate Announcement.
  • Attend meetings and trainings on course administration.
  • Advertise courses on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty, students, staff.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment with careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a small and highly collaborative team.
  • Experience planning and executing all aspects of special events.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of a higher education research institution.

Preferred

  • Experience with undergraduate/graduate programming at the university level.
  • Experience with University systems and software including PeopleSoft, SAFE, Stellic, Information Warehouse, PRIME, and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity/comfort with online and/or hybrid event administration (Zoom meetings and webinars, OWL camera).
