Job summary

Penn State University’s Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology seeks two part-time Undergraduate Research Assistants to support research in the Global Change Pathology Laboratory. Primary duties include media preparation, bacterial culturing, inoculations, disease assessment, and data organization, under supervision.

Training in lab safety, aseptic technique, plant pathology methods, and basic procedures will be provided.

Qualifications

• Prior or current student status in an undergraduate program preferred.
• Willingness to learn laboratory and controlled-environment plant research techniques.

Responsibilities

• Prepare microbiological media and materials; maintain bacterial cultures.
• Perform plant inoculations and disease assessment under supervision.
• Assist with basic molecular biology procedures and growth chamber experiments.
• Organize experimental samples and data; follow written protocols and maintain records.
