Description

Attorney General's Office Investigators are responsible for collecting data/evidence from available sources, for the purpose of investigating and evaluating Unclaimed Property Division Claims. The individual should be flexible regarding accepting the assignments and work schedule that might be required to perform the functions of this position.

Examples of Duties
  • Proactively contact owners or heirs of large dollar properties to alert them to the existence of the property and help create a claim if needed
  • Review unclaimed property claims to verify identity of claimant and assess for potential fraud.
  • Conduct investigations, document case work, and submit reports in a timely manner. Must be able to write detailed, yet clear and concise investigative reports outlining the details of the information/evidence collected.
  • Contact other agencies, individuals, and businesses to gather evidence and information.
  • Effectively and efficiently utilize available resources in the collection of information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • The individual must be able to handle a high volume of cases and manage multiple assignments of varied complexity. Technical/computer knowledge, trustworthiness, organization, and motivation are essential. The candidate should be self-reliant and demonstrate tact, respect, and ethical conduct in all job aspects.
  • Ability to handle adversarial and complex situations calmly and politely, maintain confidentiality, and adapt quickly to new and sensitive situations.
  • Must have a 4-year degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a related field, or equivalent work experience in law enforcement.
  • Must pass a thorough background check and possess a valid Indiana driver's license.
