Overview

The Unbilled Specialist is responsible for supporting the Coding team by investigating unbilled accounts and assisting in escalation or resolution. The specialist analyzes daily inpatient and outpatient Discharged Not Billed (DNB) accounts and manages assigned EPIC work queues. They contact relevant parties to expedite problem resolution, review discharge dispositions on audit spreadsheets, notify coding managers of errors, and provide coder education. Additionally, they communicate trends and patterns related to errors and edits to coding managers and directors.

Special Skills/Qualifications/Additional Training/Experience Required

• Course in medical terminology or equivalent required. 3-5 years of experience with medical record activities required; experience with DNB and/or coding/billing problem resolution preferred.
• Proficiency in computer skills, ability to prioritize tasks, handling of PHI or medical records required. Experience with electronic health records preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Experience interacting with physicians preferred.
