Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Staff unarmed security posts and provide security for the personnel and property of, and visitors to, assigned US Government Property. Provide vehicle screening, inspection of passengers embarking on ferry vessels, waterborne patrol, surveillance, and traffic control to direct traffic onto the ferry vessels or staging areas for loading and unloading of vehicles and passengers for the TxDOT Galveston and Port Bolivar Ferry Operations.

PAY TRANSPARENCY/COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: $16.12/hr.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Protect personnel and property in a professional manner.
• Meet and deal tactfully and politely with the general public and visitors.
• Effectively and efficiently screen and process visitors.
• Identify, report, delay or detain persons who violate rules and regulations.
• Conduct internal and external roving foot patrols.
• Complete all reports and paperwork as required.
• Maintain mandated training requirements in accordance with company guidance.
• Maintain physical fitness and agility requirements.
• Ensure safety requirements compliance and safe work practices.
• Support safety programs and participate in Quality and Process Improvement programs.
• Operate and monitor all SOC communication systems and related sub-systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years as a security guard, law enforcement officer, or US Armed Forces member.
• Licensed as Level II non-commissioned officer.
• Completed the Texas-approved unarmed security officers training course.
• Possess a valid TWIC card.
• US Citizen with social security card and valid state driver’s license.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Meet all medical and physical standards as outlined in the contract.
• Meet background screening and suitability requirements.
• Fluent in reading and writing English.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is at a busy port with potential interruptions, long standing or walking periods, extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Outdoor conditions may include extreme temperatures, weather, and high noise levels, proximity to moving machinery, vehicles, electrical hazards, heat, cold, or chemicals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to walk unassisted at least 500 yards, climb stairs, lift and carry 20 pounds, and stand for extended periods, often without breaks. Visual and auditory acuity are required for heavy equipment and firearms operation. May require fitting for and wearing a respirator. Must meet all physical and psychological standards as per contract requirements.
