The Independent Evaluation Service (IES) of the Independent Evaluation, Audit, and Investigations Services (IEAIS) evaluates the work of UN women to enhance organizational accountability, provide evidence-based information for decision-making and to contribute to learning on gender equality and the empowerment of women. It will undertake various corporate and IES-led evaluations as part of its corporate evaluation plan.
Under the supervision of the Evaluation Specialist, the evaluation intern will support IES in identifying, testing and documenting responsible application of artificial intelligence (AI) across the evaluation cycle. The intern will develop and pilot AI-supported approaches for verifiable tasks such as document reviews, structured data extraction, preliminary coding support, summaries based on sources, and dissemination of products from finalized evaluations. The intern will also support the development of reusable prompts, validation protocols, checks for gender bias, and practical learning materials.
All work will follow the IES Guidance Note on Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Evaluation. AI-supported outputs will be validated against source material, recorded as required and reviewed for bias, omission and misrepresentation. Non-public information will only be processed through approved UN Women tools and in accordance with applicable data-protection, confidentiality and informed-consent requirements.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
At UN Women, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment of mutual respect.
