Job Description

UMKC Conservatory Academy/Bridges invites applications to join our teaching staff. The Academy complements the Conservatory's degree programs by bridging the national reputation and excellence of the Conservatory with the local musical needs of the Kansas City community. The Academy functions as a division within the Conservatory, providing non-credit preparatory performing arts education and community engagement programs for children and adults.

This is a continuous posting intended to fill positions as needed throughout the year and does not have a specific end date. Candidates should submit a cover letter and resume.

Job Duties:
  1. Teach 16/18 weeks per semester and 6-9 weeks each summer session
  2. Clearly explain studio and Academy policies to students, as well as session dates and breaks.
  3. Build studios through recruitment in a good-faith effort to maintain and promote the Academy.
  4. Maintain contact with students on a regular basis, communicating with them regarding cancelled/rescheduled lessons, registration due dates, etc.
  5. Prepare students for end of semester performance and juries
  6. Submit attendance and lesson reports on a weekly basis
  7. Communicate with the Coordinator concerning scheduling of rooms, needs of the studios, and condition of equipment.

This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible hourly position. Hours vary depending on the number of participants signing up for lessons in a specific specialization (instrument).

Qualifications
  • Must have at least an undergraduate degree in music; a graduate degree is preferred.
  • Preferred at least 1 year experience teaching private lessons
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
