Job summary

UTHealth Houston in Houston, TX, seeks an Electron Microscopy Technologist I/II/III to participate in daily EM lab operations, embedding tissue and preparing biopsies for ultrastructural pathology exams. You'll follow SOPs to ensure quality results.

The role requires HTL certification within 6 months, ability to multitask, and strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards; full benefits included.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of tissue preparation techniques and staining methods.
  • Knowledge of various laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certified Histotechnologist (HTL(ASCP)) by ASCP obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Process and embed patient biopsies for ultrastructural pathology examination.
  • Perform ultramicrotomy to prepare sections from various tissues.
  • Prepare ultra-thin sections for EM screening by lab staff.
  • Daily QC on all biopsy slides and grids.
  • Maintain logs, records, and storage for specimen blocks and images.
  • Provide direction to clinical staff for proper specimen collection and handling.
