Job Summary:
This position is responsible for preparing patients and performing routine ultrasound procedures according to providers' orders, the procedure manual, and exam protocols under the supervision of a Radiologist. The Ultrasonographer produces high-quality images and presents them with relevant comparison studies and other exam results or pertinent information to the Radiologist for interpretation.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for ultrasound examinations by confirming providers' orders, verifying identities, and obtaining medical histories to ensure appropriate examinations and facilitate accurate diagnoses.
- Performs ultrasound procedures on patients of all ages and conditions, maintaining competency through annual training and assessments.
- Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective operations and quality patient care.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge of ultrasound services and operations.
- Ensures a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Disinfects equipment and probes according to infection control standards.
- Follows standard precautions at all times.
- Provides supervision and instruction to students, supporting the ultrasound training programs.
- Monitors inventory levels to ensure availability of supplies and materials.
- Accurately documents patient information and procedural data for billing and record-keeping.
- Participates in performance improvement activities within the Ultrasound department.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited ultrasound program or relevant cross-training program, or at least twelve months of relevant experience.
- AHA BLS Provider certification required.
- ARDMS (AB or OB/GYN or VT) or ARRT (S) certification required at hire; if not obtained at hire, registry must be completed within twelve months, with the first attempt for OB/GYN registry within six months.
- Preferred: Registry in Abdomen (AB), Vascular (VT), and Pediatric Sonography (PS).
- Preferred: ARRT (R) registration in Radiologic Technology.
- Three years of relevant experience preferred.
- Experience with EMR, Radiology, and information systems preferred.
