Ultrasound Technologist - RDMS (AB), RVT (ARDMS) (Travel / Contract)

Location : Overland Park, KS Metro Area ( 50+ Mile Radius Required )

Position Highlights :

  • Dynamic Float Pool Role : Provide essential ultrasound services across multiple facilities within a health system, covering diverse settings including Adult ER, ICU, and portable exams.
  • Dedicated Weekend Schedule : Consistent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts (likely 3 x 12-hours, specific times to be confirmed).
  • Specialized Skill Set : Requires strong proficiency in both General (Abdominal, limited OB / GYN, Small Parts) and comprehensive Vascular Sonography (RVT).
  • Experienced Technologists : Minimum 2 years of broad ultrasound experience required.
  • This is a FLOAT POOL POSITION. You will be assigned to various facilities within the metro area based on daily / weekly needs. Extensive travel between sites is expected.
  • Guaranteed Hours : No guaranteed hours (shifts are assigned based on facility needs, aiming for a full weekend schedule).
  • Local Candidates : Not accepted (home address must be at least 50 miles from the primary service area).
  • Licensure / Certification : Active ARDMS registries (including RVT and preferably AB) required. No pending credentials.
  • RTO (Requested Time Off) : Limited to one request per contract period.
  • Block Scheduling : Not accommodated.

Position Summary :

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a highly skilled, adaptable, and experienced Ultrasound Technologist , registered with ARDMS and holding RVT certification (Abdomen - AB registry also strongly required / preferred) , for a Float Pool travel / contract assignment supporting multiple facilities within our partner health system in the Overland Park, KS metro area . This position is for a dedicated weekend schedule (Friday-Sunday, likely 3x12-hour shifts). The successful candidate will be a true generalist, proficient in performing a wide range of ultrasound examinations, with a strong emphasis on vascular studies, across diverse settings including adult ER, ICU, and performing portable exams. This role requires at least two years of experience, proficiency with Philips and Client ultrasound equipment, and the flexibility to float between different hospital and outpatient sites.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations in General Sonography and Vascular Sonography according to established protocols.
  • General Ultrasound : Conduct studies including Abdominal (Aorta, Appendix, Biliary Tract, Gallbladder, Liver, Pancreas, Spleen), limited OB / GYN (1st trimester), Renal / Pelvis (Bladder, Hernia, Ovaries, Prostate, Renal / Bladder Uterus, Vaginal), and Small Parts (Testicles / Scrotum, Thyroid).
  • Vascular Ultrasound (RVT) : Perform comprehensive non-invasive vascular examinations including Aorta, Arterial Graft Studies, Carotid Duplex, Color Flow Doppler, Dialysis Access Grafts, general Doppler Studies, Lower and Upper Extremity Arterial and Venous Duplex, Peripheral Vascular Resistance studies, Renal Artery Duplex, and Stent evaluation.
  • Operate Philips and Client ultrasound equipment proficiently, optimizing image quality for interpretation.
  • Provide imaging services in various settings including adult patient care units, Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and perform portable / bedside examinations.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explain processes clearly, and ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Analyze sonographic images in real-time, providing accurate preliminary findings and measurements for physician review.
  • Utilize PACS and hospital EMR systems for image archival, retrieval, and patient record documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to departmental protocols, safety standards, infection control measures (including isolation precautions), and patient privacy regulations.
  • Float seamlessly between multiple assigned facilities within the metro area as directed by operational needs.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and report any malfunctions.

Required Qualifications :

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • Current and active registration by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with the following credentials :

Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) is mandatory.

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Abdomen (AB) specialty is strongly required / highly preferred for a generalist role.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable clinical experience as a registered Ultrasound Technologist performing both general and vascular ultrasound examinations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and recent hands-on experience operating both Philips and Client ultrasound systems.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience performing ultrasound in ER, ICU, and portable settings.
  • Must currently reside 50 miles or further from the Overland Park, KS service area.
  • Active ARDMS credentials required (no pending credentials accepted).
  • Must meet the facility's Influenza vaccination requirement (Medical / Religious exemptions reviewed per policy).
  • Willingness and ability to float extensively between multiple sites, requiring reliable personal transportation.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous experience in a Charge Technologist role.
  • Broader OB / GYN scanning experience beyond 1st trimester.
  • Proficiency with specific hospital EMR / PACS systems used by the partner facilities (details during screening).
