Job Summary

Under the Radiologist's direction, performs ultrasound procedures to detect pathology. Must work with diverse patient groups, including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Responsible for high-quality service, patient interaction, and maintaining a safe environment.

Essential Functions
  • Perform diagnostic procedures using appropriate transducer frequencies.
  • Manage equipment safely and produce diagnostic images for interpretation.
  • Follow scanning protocols and adapt to special cases; possess good US anatomy knowledge.
  • Complete paperwork including scheduling, orders, logs, records, and charges.
  • Prepare patients and environment, position patients, and adjust equipment.
  • Use RIS and PACS effectively; order, start, and complete exams; document and send images.
  • Assemble images and requisitions for radiologist review with complete information.
  • Answer patient and physician questions tactfully, respecting privacy and confidentiality.
  • Produce diagnostic-quality images independently, seek help when needed.
  • Perform exams efficiently, communicate effectively considering patient needs.
  • Report equipment issues and hazards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of work area and supplies.
  • Follow safety protocols, wear appropriate PPE, and dispose of sharps and fluids properly.

  • Provide excellent customer service, use scripting tools, recognize others, and apply AIDET principles.
Communication/Knowledge
  • Wear nametag, follow dress code, answer calls promptly, meet deadlines, act ethically, and respect others.

  • Attend meetings, follow HIPAA, patient rights, and compliance policies. Know emergency procedures and safety programs.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year ultrasound experience with proven competency.
  • Proficient computer skills.
Education
  • Graduate from an AMA-accredited ultrasound program.
  • Registered with ARDMS (RVT or equivalent); BLS from AHA.
  • If not certified, obtain RVT within 6 months of employment.
