Job Summary

Prioritizes and coordinates ultrasound exams with nursing units, radiologists, and referring physicians. Performs ultrasound exams following departmental protocols and standards. Provides appropriate patient care related to the exam requested. Operates ultrasound and related equipment proficiently.



Essential Functions

  • Examines requests and verifies orders for each assigned patient
  • Assists radiologists in performing invasive procedures
  • Evaluates the technical quality of exams and develops effective techniques to improve department efficiency
  • Supports the Patient-Centered Care Philosophy by understanding that every staff member is a Caregiver, aiming to meet each patient's needs
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Assistant Director, Lead Sonographer, and/or Engineer
  • Operates the Radiology computer system, including entering and charging exams and supplies
  • Maintains a neat and organized work area, ensuring supplies are stocked
  • Follows departmental rules and regulations professionally at all times

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies up to 600 pounds with assistance. Work involves walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting during normal operations. Requires mental skills to read and understand patient orders and technical materials. Motor coordination is needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Must have an intact sense of sight and hearing.



Education, Experience, and Certifications

Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (S) is required. Graduation from a comprehensive medical diagnostic ultrasound program is preferred. BLS certification is required per policy guidelines. Interpersonal skills are essential.
