The ultrasound technologist adheres to departmental procedures, complies with safety, fire, hazardous waste, radiation safety, and infection control requirements. Maintains licensure, participates in continuing education units (CEUs), performs ultrasound procedures (portable, ER, general, vascular), maintains equipment and supplies, and manages related paperwork. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Participates in clinical activities such as assisting with patient flow and care, performing tests, and supporting providers. Also engages in clerical activities like registration, scheduling, filing, telephone duties, chart preparation, faxing, copying, and form completion. Participates in departmental on-call requirements.
Experience in general, vascular, and portable ultrasound preferred; at least 1 year of experience is desirable. ARDMS eligibility is required.
Associate degree or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited sonography school or program.
Candidates must obtain ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) certification within six months of hire. Eligibility for this period requires successful completion of the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) exam, with documentation of a passing grade. Additionally, candidates are expected to acquire RVT certification within 12 months of hire, with departmental extensions considered on a case-by-case basis based on performance. Training in elastography, thyroidectomies, pediatric exams (echoencephalography, hips, spines), PVRs, TCDs, GYN exams, and vascular studies (arterial and venous duplexes, dialysis grafts, extremity mappings, carotids, abdominal venous, etc.) is also expected. BLS certification is required.
