Job summary

MelroseWakefield Hospital is seeking a Per Diem Ultrasound Technologist to perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound exams and related procedures under physician or radiologist direction. The role requires technical expertise in acoustics, anatomy, and patient-specific exam tailoring.

The candidate should hold an associate degree or 2-year certificate in ultrasound, BLS, and ARDMS certification. Prior ultrasound experience and call coverage per policy are preferred to ensure we deliver timely,

Qualifications

• Associates degree or two year certificate in Ultrasound.
• BLS Certification required.
• ARDMS certification preferred or required as listed.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate ultrasound equipment and transducers.
• Describe anatomy and acoustic characteristics for radiologist interpretation.
• Assist physicians with procedures requiring ultrasound guidance (biopsies, amniocentesis, etc.).
• Maintain equipment and report safety issues to supervisor.
• Attend mandatory department meetings and participate in quality improvement.
• Provide courteous patient care and educate patients about the exam process.

In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Ultrasound duties: Utilizes Ultrasound Technology to provide images of internal body structures. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.Job OverviewPerforms high quality diagnostic ultrasound exams and special diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the direction of the physician and/or radiologist involving the use of high frequency sound waves to investigate the internal aspects of the human body. Requires a high degree of technical knowledge pertaining to acoustics and its various interactions within the human body. An in depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is also required so the technologist can evaluate laboratory data, past medical history and pertinent symptoms to tailor the ultrasound examination to each patient individually in a safe, accurate and timely manner.Job DescriptionMinimum Qualifications:1. Associates degree or two year certificate program in Ultrasound.2. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.3. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) .Preferred Qualifications:1. One (1) years of work experience as an ultrasound technologist.Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.1. Sets up and operates equipment, manipulating transducers and adjusting console dials to obtain a clear recording of specified sections of the body. Records each examination.2. Assists radiologists in interpretation by describing anatomy, anatomical locations and acoustic characteristics of each film.3. Compares previous ultrasound to current exam, writes up case and findings on technologist sheets, compiles everything together and gives to the radiologist to be dictated.4. Assists physicians and/or radiologists with any special procedures including but not limited to biopsies, breast localization’s, amniocentesis, aspirations, paracentesis, thoracentesis, hysterosonograms and any other procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.5. Informs supervisor of equipment problems and safety issues.6. Covers a minimum of call as per policy. Must arrive at the hospital as soon as possible (within one (1) hour).7. Covers a minimum of hospital recognized holiday shifts as per policy.8. Performs all related department duties as required.9. Works independently and performs a variety of procedures and/or exams requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.10. Provides the highest level of service to all customer groups. Conforms behavior and actions by exhibiting excellent customer relation skills to patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.11. Educates each patient in a professional manner about what the patients should expect and the timeliness of the exam. Is committed to assure that the patient’s expectations of service are exceeded.12.
