Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking an experienced Sonography Technician to conduct ultrasound examinations in accordance with safety and infection control protocols. The role requires ARDMS, BLS/CPR, and graduate-level education in diagnostic medical sonography.

The candidate will train staff, verify orders, and ensure high-quality imaging for radiologist interpretation. You will work in a fast-paced radiology department at the Hialeah West site, collaborating with physicians and residents

Qualifications

• ARDMS certification required.
• BLS/CPR certification required.
• Graduate of an AMA Accredited Educational Program for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent.
• Certified in Abdomen, OB/GYN, and RVT, or 5 years of vascular experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment for sonography examinations.
• Review patient history and physician orders to verify medical necessity before examination.
• Inspect images for quality and ensure proper patient data prior to radiologist interpretation.
• Assist with training of new technologists, assistants and residents.
• Maintain and stock ultrasound room and supplies; report equipment malfunctions.
• Perform advanced sonography services and delegated procedures as required.
• Ensure all images are sent to the PACS and document delays in EPIC Tech Notes.

Job Description Summary:

Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, procedures and assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the sonographic examination, Implements Standard Precautions on all patients, as per hospital policy. Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information, patient's medical record(s) to verify physician's order prior to examination. Ensure that the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of “medical necessity.” Inspects images for quality, and monitors all images with respect to proper patient name, date and medical record number prior to interpretation by Radiologist. Assists with training of new technologists, technical assistants and physician residents in all phases of assigned procedures, as requested by supervisor/manager/director. Demonstrates competency and observes safety guidelines when operating all specialized equipment in assigned clinical area, performs quality control procedures to ensure that the ultrasound equipment operates at optimal levels. Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand. Apply independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images. Performs advanced sonography services or other tasks (i.e.: PICC lines, PVR's, ABI's, renal artery, interventional procedures, etc.) as delegated by the supervising physician, consistent with education, training, and facility protocols, policies and procedures. Adjusts to variable schedules and/or procedure techniques that may be required at times. Reports all equipment malfunctions to lead technologist / supervisor and clinical engineering immediately. Maintains and stocks room with proper supplies necessary to complete the ultrasonic examinations. Provides a preliminary report (electronically or manually) of sonography examination for use by the interpreting physician and documents any/all patient exam delays in EPIC "Tech Notes" with date/time & technologist's initials. Demonstrates knowledge and proper use of computer programs, particularly the EPIC and SYNAPSE systems. Completes exam data entry on all studies performed on a daily basis, as well as any other necessary paperwork associated with each case. Ensures that all images were successfully sent to the PACS system. Checks business e-mail daily, responds as appropriate & attends monthly department staff meetings as scheduled.

Qualifications

License/Registration/Certification American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certified. BLS/CPR certification required. Education Graduate of an AMA Accredited Educational Program for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent. Experience Ceritfied in Abdomen, OB/GYN, and RVT or 5 years of vascular experience.
