Under general supervision and following established policies, performs diagnostic ultrasound exams using appropriate imaging equipment. Verifies patient identity and reviews medical record for exam appropriateness. Interviews patient for medical history and assesses risk factors. Explains procedures, side effects, risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow‑up. Sets up equipment and acquires images as per script, reviews images, makes initial observations, documents exceptions, and communicates data to radiologist. Recognizes and responds to medical emergencies, provides post‑care instructions, participates in process improvement activities (quality of care, patient flow, reject‑repeat analysis, satisfaction), educates residents, student technologists, and new employees, and is able to take call or standby as required by the department.
