Job description

Overview

To perform routine and specialized examinations in Ultrasound; adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic results; prepare patients for examinations. This requires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologist.

Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

Performs ultrasound procedures in a manner that ensures an accurate and complete examination within the guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards of Medical Imaging for all patient ages.

  • Exhibits competency in performing ultrasound procedures.
  • Images required views demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathology.
  • Knowledgeable of catheters, biopsy instruments, and sterile trays; prepares these items as necessary.
  • Obtains accurate histories and explains the rationale for procedures to patients and families.
  • Enhances image quality through appropriate transducers and machine settings.
  • Evaluates finished images to ensure diagnostic quality before submission to radiologists.
  • Maintains quality care throughout the procedure.
  • Assesses the abdominal arterial and venous systems using color imaging.
Equipment Knowledge and Maintenance

Maintains working knowledge of ultrasound equipment, including hardware and software, to function effectively in all areas of ultrasound.

  • Performs troubleshooting and reports equipment problems through appropriate channels.
  • Maintains a clean work area, stocks supplies, and verifies pertinent accessories.
Invasive Procedures
  • Documents areas of concern.
  • Sets up sterile trays for radiologist procedures.
  • Assists radiologists with biopsies.
  • Orders labs and pathology tests under radiologist supervision.
Relationship Building
  • Supports department functions to meet patient expectations and needs.
  • Ensures timely processing of images and paperwork for reports.
  • Maintains patient flow and enters patient information accurately into HIS system.
  • Participates in QA, QC, and QI programs.
  • Shares knowledge and mentors fellow technologists and students.
  • Maintains a professional attitude fostering mutual respect and a productive learning environment.
Qualifications
License/Certifications: BLS within 30 days (American Heart Association); ARDMS certification.
Education:

Certificate of Completion or Associate's Degree.

Salary Range
