South Texas Radiology Imaging Centers (STRIC) in San Antonio, TX seeks an Ultrasound Technologist II to perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures including abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts and pediatrics. The role emphasizes maintaining equipment, quality control, and supporting physicians with invasive procedures.

Candidates should have ARDMS/ARRT credentials and education in ultrasonography, radiologic technology, or vascular technology.

Qualifications

  • Education: one of the following—Ultrasonography, Radiologic Technology, Vascular Technology, or an Associates degree or higher.
  • Current employees: similar training in Ultrasonography, Radiologic Technology, Vascular Technology, Medical Assisting, or an associate/higher degree.
  • Two (2) years experience as a fulltime ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains skills and understanding of innovation in techniques and equipment in medical sonography.
  • Assists physicians in performing ultrasound-guided biopsies and other invasive procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to care for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Responsible for proper use of the Radiology Computer System (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).
  • Follows safety policies and infection control/universal precautions.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness; practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination.

Job Summary And Qualifications

General Statement of Duties:

The Ultrasound Technologist (sonographer) performs diagnostic procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. The sonographer will maintain technical skills needed to perform ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts, pediatrics (where applicable) and invasive exams. In addition, the sonographer will maintain department supplies and equipment and will participate in the quality control of the ultrasound department.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
  • Education: ONE of the following:
  • New Hires as of October 1, 2011:
  • Successful completion of training program in either:
  • Ultrasonography
  • Radiologic Technology
  • Vascular Technology
  • Associates of Science or higher degree
  • Current employees:
  • Successful completion of training program in either:
  • Ultrasonography
  • Radiologic Technology
  • Vascular Technology
  • Medical Assisting
  • Associates degree or higher degree
  • Experience: none required
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
  • Preferred:

Two (2) years experience as a fulltime ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred.

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

Must have and maintain ONE of the following within the timeframes below:

  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • RDMS- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ABD or OBGYN)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (S)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (VS)
AND ONE Of The Following
  • RVT- Registered Vascular Technologist or
  • Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RVS)
Essential Job Functions

  • May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

  • Understands and is committed to helping STRIC and its associated facilities achieve its goals.
  • Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.
  • Understands and enforces system, departmental policies and procedures, as well as, established rules and regulations.
  • Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • (RDMS) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, or (ARRT-R) Radiography, or Associate Degree, or Vocational School Graduate
  • (RVT) Registered Vascular Technician, or (RVS) Registered Vascular Specialist
