Job Summary

Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, performs diagnostic Ultrasound exams using appropriate imaging equipment.

• Verifies patient identity and reviews medical records for exam appropriateness.
• Interviews patients to obtain and verify medical history, assessing risk factors such as medications, pregnancy, and psychological indicators.
• Explains procedures to patients, including side effects, risks, benefits, and follow-up instructions.
• Sets up equipment and acquires images as per script.
• Reviews images, makes initial observations, documents deviations from protocols, and communicates findings to radiologist.
• Recognizes and responds to medical emergencies appropriately.
• Provides post-care instructions as prescribed by physicians.
• Participates in quality improvement activities, educates residents and staff, and can take call/standby as required.

Qualifications

• Registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARMDS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Sonography (S).
• Must complete AHA BLS training by end of orientation.
• Registered in specialty within 12 months of employment in the discipline.
