Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI certification in Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast, or Vascular.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum 1 year ultrasound experience preferred (outpatient experience a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sonographic imaging principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform abdominal, renal, pelvic, thyroid, scrotal and small parts ultrasound.
  • Perform gynecologic scans (transabdominal and transvaginal).
  • Perform diagnostic and screening breast ultrasound.
  • Conduct carotid, venous, arterial and abdominal vascular Doppler studies.
  • Explain procedures, position patient, and operate ultrasound equipment safely.
  • Document patient information in RIS/PACS in a timely manner.
  • Maintain imaging area and QA/compliance, and keep records up to date.
  • Educate patients regarding procedures, safety and equipment.
  • Provide imaging support for Varicose Vein treatment procedures as directed.
  • Cover shifts as needed and mentor new hires.

DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY

The Ultrasound Technologist performs a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations including obstetric/gynecologic, breast, and vascular in an outpatient imaging center setting. The technologist is responsible for producing high quality images to assist the radiologists in accurate diagnosis and patient care. This position requires strong technical skills, professionalism, and a commitment to patient centered service. US Technologist will perform all assigned duties under the direction of the Radiologist, US Supervisor and Imaging Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform abdominal, renal, pelvic, thyroid, scrotal and small parts ultrasound.
  • Perform gynecologic scans (transabdominal and transvaginal) to assess reproductive organs.
  • Perform diagnostic and screening breast ultrasound examinations.
  • Conduct carotid, venous, arterial and abdominal vascular Doppler studies
  • Must accurately interpret a physician’s instructions, routine procedural protocols, prepare and operate the ultrasound equipment, associated software and equipment and position the patient to capture the appropriate images.
  • Document all patient related information in radiology information system in a timely manner based on patient and radiologist workflow.
  • Acquire patients' chart data/requisition and reviews both to determine correct room set-up and learn of any specific medical problems, contraindications to the study and verify that the study being ordered correlates to the diagnostic needs.
  • Maintain all aspects of the ultrasound imaging area including technical and clerical components to ensure proper quality assurance results, maintenance of required documentation and keep the area in a state of inspection readiness and compliance.
  • Actively participate and maintain detailed follow-up of BIRADS category 0 mammographic records to ensure compliance with ACR requirements.
  • Educate patients regarding procedure, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and safety.
  • Provide imaging support for Varicose Vein Treatment procedures, ensuring sterile technique and imaging guidance as directed by the radiologist.
  • Provide coverage as needed (i.e. in the event of call off or extended patient schedules).
  • Provides instruction/mentoring new hires. Continually strives to learn new technical information and skills through attendance of periodic in-service programs and participation in professional affiliation programs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Ensure a compassionate and professional experience for every patient.
  • Review patient history and explain procedures clearly to obtain cooperation and confidence.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete reports in PACS and RIS systems.
  • Adhere to established protocols, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Assist with quality assurance, equipment calibration, and maintaining a clean, organized exam area.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
  • ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI certifications in at least one specialty (Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast or Vascular, additional certification preferred.)
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Minimum 1 year of ultrasound experience preferred (outpatient experience a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sonographic imaging principles.
