Job Summary

This posting reflects an opening for an Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist I. We are seeking candidates for this position, with consideration for higher levels such as Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist II based on skills, qualifications, and experience. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.

Ultrasound Technologists (Sonographers) are responsible for administering multi-frequency sound waves and other techniques for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. They perform sonographic imaging procedures, acquire and analyze data for diagnosis, and work under the supervision or independently, as appropriate. They also prepare, administer, and document medication activities in accordance with laws and policies.

Job Duties
  1. Ensure correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared, and clinical history is documented while respecting confidentiality.
  2. Utilize appropriate imaging protocols, optimize technical factors, and apply ALARA principles to maximize patient safety and care.
  3. Prepare and/or administer medications through vascular access sites as prescribed.
  4. Evaluate images for quality, verify storage and transfer of data, and perform post-processing as needed.
  5. Educate and monitor students and healthcare providers.
  6. Collaborate with licensed practitioners during sonographic interventional procedures.
  7. Ensure equipment parameters are optimal for diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  8. Perform diagnostic and interventional sonographic procedures as prescribed or during educational activities.
  9. Review symptoms and medical history to determine appropriate exams.
  10. Evaluate orders to ensure correct scheduling of patient exams.
  11. Perform noninvasive vascular laboratory tests, if applicable.
  12. Provide preliminary interpretation of test results, including disease level, incidental findings, and need for further testing, reporting to the provider.

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The role requires compliance with all organizational policies and procedures. Additional department-specific skills may be required.

Position Requirements

The following certifications are required upon hire:

  • Certification by ARRT, ARDMS, or CCI as a sonographer.
  • Specific credentials depend on the specialty area, such as radiology, maternal fetal medicine, echocardiography, or vascular.

Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete steps for advancing to level 2 within 24 months.
