The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing ultrasound scanning and handling any problems that may arise from patient discomfort to discussing cases with radiologists and referring physicians. Position and transfer patients to and from the ultrasound table using proper safety techniques. Prepare patients for examination and explain procedures while performing studies. Assist physicians during interventional procedures. Dispose of biomedical waste using CDC and OSHA guidelines. Maintain cleanliness of examining rooms and ultrasound machines. Differentiate artifacts from normal and pathological processes. Correlate clinical history with the tests performed. Prepare studies for Radiologist reading utilizing PACS. Answer phones and give appointments, and call the floor to transport patients for tests. Maintain adequate room supplies such as respiratory and suction tubing.
Graduate of an accredited school for Ultrasound Technology. ARDMS (OB, AB, or RVT) OR CCI (RVS). Knowledge of GE Ultrasound unit preferred. Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Manual dexterity for manipulating the function of equipment. Ability to communicate with patients and other health professionals. Understand written and verbal instructions. Proficient in the use of MediTech and PACS.
