Description

Summary:

Provide assistance to Perinatologist in gathering data, operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment, and obtain diagnostic quality images of female pelvic organs, uterus, and fetus. Maintain all necessary supplies and equipment for the Antenatal Diagnostic Testing Unit.

Responsibilities

1. Perinatal Ultrasounds: Maintain full working knowledge of ultrasound techniques and anatomy in obstetrical & gynecological patients. Perform initial evaluation of fetal anatomy, biometric measurements, and fetal activity.
2. Assist Perinatologist with scanning of patient: Explain procedure to patient and significant other. Demonstrate normal anatomy and relay findings to doctor. Discuss results of exam with patient. Interpret findings and present to doctor.
3. Assist with amniocentesis: Explain procedure to the patient, ensure that appropriate forms are filled out. Set up equipment needed for the procedure. Assist needle insertion with ultrasound guidance. Explain post-amniocentesis restrictions to patient.
4. Evaluate and maintain equipment and materials: Maintain inventory of supplies, linens, and instrument trays needed for ultrasounds, amniocentesis, and gynecological examinations.
5. Continuing Education: Attend continuing education programs and participate in professional organizations. Maintain and update educational records. Maintain teaching tapes for ultrasound cases. Assist in orientation and training of radiology residents.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.
7. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent.

Other Information

Required: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program. Two to three years of experience in performing ultrasounds preferred, with at least one year in OB ultrasound preferred.

Minimum Experience: Two years.

American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) registration within 1 year required.

Working Conditions

Manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity required. Some occupational risk. Very heavy physical effort; may exert up to 50 lbs. force. Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
