Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center seeks an Ultrasound Technologist to perform diagnostic ultrasound studies under the supervision of the Ultrasound Technology Supervisor. You will prepare exam rooms, educate patients, and ensure high-quality images for radiologist review.

The role requires strong proficiency with PACS/RIS/HIS, dedication to safety, and the ability to handle multiple exams while maintaining accuracy and patient comfort at Bayhealth Sussex Campus.

Qualifications

  • Education as specified: Associate Degree or Ultrasound certificate with ARRT credentials.
  • May require ARRT registration or equivalent credentials for ultrasound.
  • High school diploma minimum where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares procedure room and patient for all studies, ensuring disinfection.
  • Educates patient about the procedure and obtains consent when required.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures according to protocol and age/ability adaptions.
  • Ensures quality images and reviews results prior to PACS submission.
  • Maintains familiarity with HIS, RIS, PACS and related QA requirements.
  • Run daily work reports; track errors and ensure accurate billing.
  • Maintain supplies and restock; keeps room ready for procedures.
  • Performs any other duties within scope of responsibilities.

SALARY RANGE: 37.07 – 57.47 HOURLY

General Summary

Under the direction of the Site Manager and Ultrasound Technology Supervisor, demonstrates competency and actively functions in Ultrasound procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares procedure room and patient for all studies. Properly disinfect all equipment after each patient, following cleaning policies and protocols. All dirty linen should be disposed and replaced after every patient. Monitor patient flow for efficient daily operations.
  • Educates patient regarding ordered procedure and answers any related questions. Obtain patient history and written consent for exam. Verify patient information, check for appropriate ICD-9/10 codes. Utilize appropriate patient safety screening/consent forms to ensure all safety precautions have been addressed prior to procedure.
  • Performs procedures in accordance with established protocols. Positions patients and selects appropriate equipment necessary to accomplish procedure depending upon the age of the patient and the physical capabilities. Monitors patient during procedures; notifies Radiologist of reactions or problems. Assist the radiologists when necessary. Every effort must be made to minimize patient discomfort.
  • Demonstrate competency on all general diagnostic imaging equipment in Ultrasound, using established protocols. Ensure quality images for all completed procedures prior to releasing patient by reviewing films or sending images to the PACS System, depending on type of procedure. Imaging QA’s should be less than 2% per month.
  • Carries out duties and assumes responsibility for portions of the quality assurance program, as directed by the equipment vendors. Maintain competence with HIS, RIS, PHS and PACS.
  • Run a pending work report daily to ensure all exams have been properly charged. PACS and HIS errors are closely tracked and reported on PI reports following the QA policy. The individual error rate should be less than 2%.
  • Maintain adequate supplies. Responsible for stocking the room, as assigned, at the beginning of each shift and throughout the day to ensure that the room is always ready to perform the required procedures. Be aware of supply needs and par levels, and report all items that fall below par level to the designated person.
  • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education: Associate Degree; Allied Health; Or completion of a Certificate Program in Ultrasound studies. If credentialed prior to 1984, must qualify through an experience‑based pathway with an ARRT + Substantial Sonography Experience, or qualify through an education‑based pathway with ARRT + Graduation from CAHEA‑Accredited Program. At a minimum, a high school diploma is required.
  • Credential(s): Basic Life Support Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Or: RT (S), R (VS)
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education: Associate Degree; Allied Health; Or completion of a Certificate Program in Ultrasound studies. If credentialed prior to 1984, must qualify through an experience‑based pathway with an ARRT + Substantial Sonography Experience, or qualify through an education‑based pathway with ARRT + Graduation from CAHEA‑Accredited Program. At a minimum, a high school diploma is required.
  • Credential(s): Basic Life Support Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Or: RT (S), R (VS)
  • Credential(s): Registered Vascular Technologist
  • Experience: Preferred: Ultrasound experience
