Scope of Job

To provide imaging procedures and information using independent operation of ultrasound equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes, as well as to communicate findings to the ordering provider or radiologist.

Description of Duties
  1. Prepares patient for ultrasound (U/S) procedures and provides patient education regarding procedures.
  2. Maintains the examination room where the procedures are performed and ensures all needed supplies are ordered and present in the examination rooms.
  3. Performs all procedures as ordered by the provider using the U/S equipment with skill. Documents all procedures and findings. Prepares all findings for interpretation by ordering provider, referring physician, or radiologist.
  4. Maintains all data acquisition, reconstruction, and documentation of U/S images.
  5. Practices time, accurate completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
  6. Practices patient safety at all times. Assists all patients with great safety including on and off the examination table. Practices code of ethics at all times.
  7. Adheres to all internal controls and reporting structures. Performs daily safety, warm-up and quality control checks in assigned rooms.
  8. Keeps U/S equipment in appropriate operation condition at all times and monitors preventive maintenance. Alerts manager if problems with equipment.
  9. Assesses patient condition with scope of practice and consults with providers regarding patient’s condition as needed.
  10. May be required to provide coverage at other clinical sites as needed.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education

Graduate from an accredited ultrasound program technology or radiologic technology.

Preferred Education

Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and ARDMS registered or registry eligible.

Licenses/Certifications

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR / BLS ) current Certified in the following: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer ( RDMS ) through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography ( ARDMS ) or successful completion of registry within 6 months of employment; or Sonography (S) or Vascular Sonography (VS) through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( AART ) registered.

One (1) year of experience as an ultrasound technologist.

Use of standard office and ultrasound equipment.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. May exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Usual office or clinical ambulatory patient care facility conditions, stationary or mobile. Some evening and /or weekend work may be required. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

The ability to speak Spanish is desirable. Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal. Tact, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality of medical information required in all matters. Possible exposure to combustible materials. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
